Swimmers compete in 6 separate age groups and boys swim against boys and girls swim against girls. Events for the 6 & unders are 12 1/2 yards long in backstroke and freestyle and each swimmer has a dedicated "catcher" to ensure his/her safety. 8 & unders swim all of the strokes (backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle) for 25 yards/meters (Westford is currently the only club in the league with a 25 meter pool). 10 & unders swim 50 yards/meters for breaststroke and freestyle and 25 yards/meters for backstroke and butterfly. 50 yards/meters is the length for all strokes for 12 & unders and 14 & unders. For 17 & unders, the freestyle event is lengthened to 100 yards/meters. In addition, there is a 100 yard/meter Individual Medley event for all age groups except 6 & under and there are medley and freestyle relay teams which are made up of swimmers from different age groups. Diving events are held for those in the three older age groups.

Practices are held Monday thru Friday at 9:00 AM for the younger swimmers, 10:00 AM for the older swimmers and at 11:00 AM for diving. Meets are customarily held on Saturday mornings at 9:30 AM or Wednesday afternoons at 1:00 PM and last about 3 hours. There are 5 swimming/diving meets during the season (alternating 3 home meets and two away meets annually), one against each other team in the league. In addition, there are separate diving meets where divers from all of the teams compete. There is an All-Star meet held mid-season and a Championship meet held at the end of the season.

There is a small fee associated with participation in the swim and tennis teams (one fee covers both). Typically, this fee has been $15.00 per child with maximum family contribution of $35.00. This money is used as "seed" money to buy food (hot dogs, hamburgers, candy, etc.) that is sold at home swim meets. The fees plus the profits from these sales are used to fund pre- and post-season tennis/swim team cookouts, trophy purchases, tennis and swim equipment, etc

Swim Lessons
Swim lessons are offered during the summer in 6 different levels. A variety of times and days are available for each lesson.

Adult Swim Lessons
These lessons are traditionally given by the swim team coach. Witnesses say that there is more playing than learning going on, although those in the course are definitely more proficient at swimming by the end of the summer.
