The club brunch will take place this Sunday, August 22nd at the club! It will start at 10:00 am. Please bring a breakfast or brunch dish to share. Coffee and juice will be provided. Come relax, eat, and socialize with friends! Hope to see you all there.

The Dive In Movie and Sleepover is going to be rescheduled to a later date. It was originally supposed to be this Wednesday. I will let you know when we set the date. Thanks!

Championship Parking Reminder

  • On-site parking will be limited to the coaches, officials and volunteers with a valid parking pass.

  • No parking along the entrance road due to emergency vehicle access. Any car parked along the entrance road will be towed at owner’s expense.

  • Please park at Byam School and take advantage of the buses or walk along the bike path to the club.

  • Please do not park on Blaisdell or Neil. The buses will drop-off at the cul-de-sac at the end of Blaisdell and those roads need to be kept clear.

  • Access to the club will be drop-off only at the fence entrance.

  • And, as always, please be considerate of our neighbors.

Just a reminder that the sign up sheet for donations for hospitality for Champs is still in the lobby. Anything you can contribute will be a huge help!

The team picture will be taken at the Pep Rally on Friday, August 6th at 3:00 pm. Please wear a team suit or a navy/black suit if you do not have a team suit.

The Colonial League championships are just about a week away. We are in need of food and drink donations for the hospitality area for all the coaches and officials. If every family brings one item, it would really help keep the overall cost to the club at a minimum. Please see the list below and let us know if you can help. You can email kblagg@verizon.net or carmenacabbo@verizon.net with your donation. We will also have a sign up sheet in the lobby.

Water - 15 cases
Gatoraid/Poweraid - 10 cases
Coke - 3 cases
Sprite - 3 cases
Coffee - 4 boxes of Joe (get sugar,cream and cups when you pick up)
Bagels - 2 dozen cinnamon and 2 dozen plain

Assorted small bags of chips, smartfood etc - 10 boxes of 12 bags

*We are asking that all food and drink items be brought to CS&T by Friday 8/6. If you are able to bring coffee, bagels, muffins or ice those can come the day of the meet by 7-7:30am.

Girls and Boys A-Team Tennis is over! Great season everyone!  Girls and Boys A-Team Tennis Awards Party is on August 5th at 6:00pm at the pool. We will be ordering pizza. The cost is $ 3.00 per person

Girls: Please bring a salad to share (potato, fruit, pasta, garden, Caesar, etc…)
Boys: Please bring 6 (12 oz) cans/bottles of your favorite soda, Gatorade, Powerade, juice, water etc… to share.

The biathlon is tomorrow! Make sure to bring sneakers to run in. The age groups will be running/swimming the following distances:

9-10 am:
6 and unders: RUN 1/4 MILE, SWIM 12 LENGTHS OF THE SHALLOW END
8 and unders: RUN 1/2 MILE, SWIM 300 YARDS
10 and unders: RUN 1/2 MILE, SWIM 500 YARDS

10-11 am:
12 and unders: RUN 1/2 MILE, SWIM 1000 YARDS
14 and unders: RUN 1 MILE, SWIM 1 MILE
17 and unders: RUN 1 MILE, SWIM 1 MILE
 

7/29/2010:
For the tie-dye party at the pool this Friday, we ask that the kids bring a white t-shirt, and we will supply the rest!

The Championship Pep Rally will be held Friday, August 6th. The team picture will be taken at 3:00 pm! Skits and dinner will follow. The pool will be closed from 2:30 pm until 8:00 pm this day in order to run the Pep Rally and to prepare for the Championship swim meet which will be held here @ CS&T. Pizza will be served for dinner. Cost is $3 per person (max $15 per family).

The Championship swim meet will be held Saturday, August 7th at CS&T.
- Club opens @ 7:00 am
- Warm-ups are @ 7:30 am
- Meet starts @ 9:00 am
The meet will be "timed finals," so the top 6 fastest times are the top 6. The kids will only swim each of their events once. There is no "making it back" like past years.

The Championship Cookout will take place after the Championship meet ends (We're expecting the meet to end around 2:00 pm and are hoping to start the cookout around 3:30 pm). We are offering families to participate in a BBQ provided by Bianco's Catering. The cost is $6.50 per person, and the price includes a cheeseburger, hamburger, or hot dog, pasta salad, chips, cookies, brownies, and soda and water for that price. Families will have to prepay by check made out to CS&T. Donna Omobono will be selling tickets Friday (July 30th) and Monday (August 2nd) from 9-11:30 am. People will not be able to buy on the actual day because we need to give them an accurate number before Saturday. Families can choose not to participate and they may elect to provide their own meal.

The pool will be closed all day Saturday, August 7th due to the Championship swim meet and cookout. Thank you for understanding.

Since this is Josh’s last season at CS&T we are putting together a special tribute to recognize the tremendous amount of hard work and dedication he has put into our pool club over the last several years. We will be making a DVD with a photo collage and putting together a section of quotes from members, staff, and other coaches from the Colonial League. If you would like to send in a quote about Josh please send it in to: carmenacabbo@verizon.net

We will be having the tribute for Josh the night of the pep rally. If you could send in your quotes by Tuesday that would be great.

The raffle baskets are in need of more donations from swim team members. If you have not contributed to the basket for your age group please consider doing so. The money raised from the baskets will benefit YOUR swimmer.
 

7/27/2010:
Just a reminder that tomorrow, Wednesday July 28th is the Colonial Classic swim meet at Heritage. Warm up starts at 4 pm and the meet will start at 5 pm. This meet is for anyone who did not swim at All-Stars.

Friday, July 30th is the last day of first session swim lessons. There will be an ice cream social following the completion of lessons. There will also be a tie-dye picnic party in the field after the ice cream social!

Additionally Friday, July 30th is the Annual Chuck Wood Biathlon. This event will replace swim practice (12 and under 9-10 am, 13 and over 10-11 am). All swim team kids are asked to attend. Don't forget your sneakers! : )

Friday Hot Dog lunch will run this Friday as well at 11:30 pm.

Just a couple of safety reminders:

We ask that everyone please obey the posted speed limit on the roads that surround the club (Robin Hill Rd., etc.). If you are running late for practice, a meet, or a match, not a problem! We would rather have everyone get here safe and be a couple minutes late than to have people rush to get here on time. The coaches are pretty understanding about this! Thanks.

Also, there is no parking allowed on the path leading to the tennis courts. This makes it very difficult for cars that are coming and going to pass by and creates a problem if an emergency vehicle were to have to come down here.

Thank you for understanding! We have had an excellent summer so far and we hope to keep it going great! Thanks for all that you do.

There is a sign up sheet in the lobby for volunteers for All-Stars. If you are going to be at the meet and are able to volunteer, please sign up!

Also, for Saturday's meet at Heritage, we still need one more stroke and turn judge (2nd half) and one more bull pen worker (2nd half). Let me know if you can help. Thanks.

The All-Star swim meet is tomorrow July 21st at Wedgewood. Warm up is at 4 pm and the meet will start at 5 pm.

The annual Canobie Lake Park trip is Monday, July 26th. The bus will leave from CS&T at 4 pm. The cost will be $31 per person (this will cover the ticket as well as the bus). If you have not yet signed up, the sign up sheet is in the lobby. Kids must be 9 or older to go without a parent or guardian. The kids will be put into groups and will be chaperoned by the coaches. The bus should be returning to the club around 10:30 pm.

Story Time will be held on Wednesday at 12 pm under the big tree!

Hot dog lunch will be held on Friday at 11:30 am.

The Adult Social will be held on Saturday July 24th at 7 pm. BYOB and please bring an appetizer to share!

Family Day is this Sunday, July 18th! I think I had originally said that it would start at 1pm, however, there are events at the tennis courts starting at noon. So Family Day will officially start at noon at the tennis courts. Events at the pool will begin around 1 pm. We will be eating around 2 pm. The food will be catered from Bianco's Catering. CS&T Championships Raffle Baskets Fundraiser -- August 7, 2010

We are planning a fundraiser for the championship meet on August 7th. The plan is to have each age group member contribute to a theme basket. By having the large groups participate, each swimmer should only need to buy one item to contribute to a basket. Each group will have a designated parent that will collect the donated items. Be Creative! Feel free to join with friends and buy an item together or if you cannot get out to purchase something, we will gladly accept cash toward the baskets. Please get your items or money to the parent coordinator by Friday, July 30th in order for them to buy for and assemble the baskets to be displayed at the meet. We will have a morning meeting to introduce the contact people or you may ask a staff member to point them out to you. The themes and contact people are listed below. Wednesday July 14th, the bathrooms will be closed all day. They are going to be resurfaced tomorrow so that they are no longer slippery! There will be two portable restrooms available. They will be located on the grass to the right of the staff room. Thank you for your cooperation!!

For Saturday's meet we still need: 1 runner, 2 ribbon writers, 1 scoring person, 3 bull pen people, and 1 stroke and turn (second half).

For Saturday's concessions we are looking for: 4 boxes of granola bars, 2 dozen muffins, 4 dozen donuts, 3 boxes of Joe, 2 dozen bagels with cream cheese, 16 bags of ice, 5 cases of water, 6 cases of powerade, 6 bananas, 12 nectarines & or oranges, 2 (12 packs) of orange soda, 4 boxes of juice.

Additionally, sign ups for championships are on clip board in lobby for all meet positions to make meet run smoothly. If you are able to help out with anything, let me know! Thanks.

Thanks to all of you who volunteered at the Russell Mill and Westford swim meets this week! The meets ran very smoothly because of your help.

We are hosting a diving meet tomorrow, Monday July 12th, at the pool. Warm up is at 12 pm and the meet will start at 1 pm. The big pool will be closed from 1-3:30 pm for this event. The baby pool will remain open. Thanks for your cooperation. We are also in need of volunteers to help out with concessions and scoring. If you are able to help, please let me know!

Story Time will be on Wednesday at 12 pm under the big tree.

There will be NO HOT DOG LUNCH this Friday.

There is a swim meet this Saturday against Wedgewood at CS&T. Warm up will start at 8:30 am and the meet will start at 9:30 am. The meet will likely last until around 12:30-1 pm. The big pool will be closed during this time as well.

Family Fun Day is this Sunday, July 18th at 1 pm! There will be games in the pool and at the courts. Please sign up in the lobby if you are planning on attending! The cost is $3 per person and we ask that each family brings either a salad or a dessert to share.

Men's and Women’s tennis night is going on! Tuesdays men play @ CS&T and women play @ Russell Mill and on Thursdays men play @ Russell Mill and women pay @ CS&T. Tennis Lessons, B-Team and women’s clinic have all started as well! See you on the courts!
 

7/9/2010:
For tomorrow's swim meet against Westford, we are asking everyone to please get there by 8:10 am. We are planning to walk in as a team. Also, wear as much red, white, and blue as you can! The crazier the better! War paint, hair dye, etc. is all encouraged : ) Let's get the kids pumped to kick some rival Westford butt!! See you then!

The Zumba Party is scheduled for 4 pm this Saturday, July 10th at 4pm! There is rain in the forecast for Saturday, so in the event that it is pouring rain on Saturday, the rain date for the Zumba Party is Sunday, July 11th at 3 pm. We hope to see you all there!!
 

7/8/2010:
Just a reminder that Hot Dog Lunch will run tomorrow, Friday July 9th, at 11:30 am. $3 for a hot dog, chips, and a drink. There is also fresh salad available for $1.50 and fresh salad with grilled chicken available for $2.50.

Hot Dog lunch will be canceled on Friday, July 16th, but will be back on Friday, July 23rd and Friday, July 30th.

Additionally, we need concessions donations of:
6 cases of diet coke, 1 case of sunkist, 1 case of sprite, 4 cases of water, 5 cases of powerade, and 2 packs of smart food popcorn.

For Saturday's meet at Westford, we still need:
2 bull pen helpers, and 1 stroke and turn official for second half.

Tennis Updates:

Tennis lessons have started! If you don't remember what time you have signed up for the books from the club house and opening day are at the tennis courts. The staff will be happy to help you find the time and the day.

B-Team has also started. It is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30.

Women's clinic will begin this Friday July 9, 2010 Beginner class is 9:30 -10:30 and advanced class is 10:30 - 11:30.

And finally, Men and women's night is still going on! It's not too late to come and play some tennis! Tuesday- men @ CS&T and Women @Russell Mill Thursday-men @ Russell Mill and Women @ CS&T.

I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! Just a reminder that swim lessons and tennis lessons will start tomorrow Tuesday, July 6th.

There will be a swim meet against Russell Mill on Thursday, July 8th starting at the pool. Diving warm ups start at 3 pm, dive meet starts at 3:30 pm, swimming warm ups start at 4:15 pm, and the swim meet starts at 5 pm. The pool will be closed during this event. There is a swim meet Saturday, July 10th as well at Westford. Warm up is at 8:30 am and the meet will start at 9:30 am. If you are unable to attend either of these meets, please let myself or one of the other coaches know!

Saturday, July 10th there is a Zumba Party at the pool at 4 pm. Sign up in the lobby if you are interested!

Sign ups for Family Fun Day (7/18) and the Adult Social (7/24) are available in the lobby as well. More info to come on these events!

This Friday night July 9th, the bathroom floors will be getting repainted so that they will be much less slippery. Due to the fact that they will take about 24 hours to dry, the bathrooms will be closed on Saturday July 10th. There will be portable restrooms available for use during this time. Thank you for understanding!

Also, if anyone has an extra microwave that they are looking to get rid of, CS&T is in need of one! The microwave in the member room stopped working recently, so if you have an extra or know of someone who does, please let us know! Thanks a bunch.

Tennis Updates:

There will be a parent meeting for all A-team tennis parents on Thursday July, 1st at 9:00 am at the tennis courts.

Due to the Fourth of July parade on Monday, July 5th tennis lessons will start on Tuesday July 6th.

A-Team parents: please don't forget to fill out the orange sheets and bring them to the tennis office ASAP. If you have not received one, please pick one up in the tennis office.

And finally, men's and women's night has begun: On Tuesdays, men are at CS&T and women are at Russell Mill and Thursdays, women are at CS&T and men are at Russell Mill.

Thank you to all of you who volunteered at and donated concessions for the swim meet this past Saturday! The meet ran very smoothly because of all of your help and we really appreciate it. This club would not be the great place that it is without your help!

Also, Story Time will kick off this Wednesday, June 30th at 12:00 pm under the big oak tree. All kids (and parents!) are welcome.

And if anyone has an extra freezer that they are looking to get rid of, the club is in need of one! If you or someone you know has one, please let us know!

We wanted to send out an email addressing a few things! Firstly, many of you have expressed concerns regarding the bathroom floors and how slippery they can get. We realize that this is a cause for concern and we are currently in the process of remedying the situation. However, a contributing factor to the slippery floors is that the bathrooms, especially the showers, are a popular spot for the kids to hang out. We would like to request that the kids' shower time please be monitored by parents, guardians, etc. It has been brought to our attention that many of the kids are staying in the showers for 15 minutes or more at times. The lifeguards and greeters do their best to keep an eye on the bathrooms, but their main responsibilities (watching the pool, signing in guests, etc.) have to take priority. Any help with this that we can get from parents and guardians would be greatly appreciated and would better ensure everyone's safety. And lastly, we wanted to be sure that everyone was aware that taking the "deep end test" is necessary before a child swims in the deep end of the pool alone or unsupervised by a parent or guardian (especially for non-swim team kids, guests, etc.). In order to pass the deep end test, the kids are required to swim one length of the pool freestyle, one length of the pool backstroke, and then tread water for two minutes in the deep end. The test is monitored by a lifeguard. We feel that these are the necessary skills that a child swimming in the deep end should possess. If a lifeguard feels that a child does not seem comfortable enough to be swimming in the deep end alone, they may ask them to first take this test. Additionally, if you would like your child to take this test, simply ask any of the lifeguards that are on duty at the time. If a child is unable to pass the deep end test, we ask that they not swim in the deep end alone or unsupervised by a parent or guardian.

As always, this email is not meant to criticize, we just want to ensure that all of our members have a safe and happy summer! This summer has been going very smoothly so far and we would like to thank you for all that you do! Please don't hesitate to respond with any comments, questions, or concerns. Thanks.

Hello Chelmsford Swim and Tennis Club,

Last night at our regularly scheduled Board of Governors Meeting, Club Manager Josh Blagg notified us that he has accepted the position of Interim Dean at the Chelmsford High School effective July 1st, 2010. Along with his new position come requirements regarding his time that will make it necessary for him to step back from his full time duties at the club this summer. This is a great opportunity for Josh professionally and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. He will leave a big pair of shoes to be filled!

Over the next week to ten days we will be meeting with Josh to fully understand specifically how this will impact his responsibilities at the club. Josh will be at all the regularly scheduled meets, including Championships. In addition he plans to attend many morning practices as well. Josh has always been and remains committed to the club, its members and his coaching responsibilities. We have a great staff in place and I am confident we will have a smooth transition as we move through these changes.

As soon as we have more definitive details I will report them to you.

Hot Dog Lunch will begin this Friday, June 25th at 12 pm.
The cost is $3 for a hot dog, a bag of chips, and a drink.

CONCESSION DONATIONS NEEDED:

We are also still in need of a few things for the concession stand for the first swim meet this Saturday, June 26th. We still need:
* 2 boxes of joe
* 1 dozen muffins
* 2 dozen donuts
* 3 dozen bagels and cream cheese
* 2 cases of powerade
* 1 case of coke
* 1 case of juice boxes
* 4 bags of ice

SWIM MEET VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
We are still in need of a few volunteers for the swim meet on Saturday as well. We still need:
* 1 timer for Events 30-60
* 1 Bull Pen volunteer for events 30-60
* 1 Stroke and Turn Judge for Events 30-60
* 1 more Announcer for Events 30-60

Swim lessons will start on Tuesday, July 6th not Monday, July 5th as originally scheduled. This is due to the fact that the Chelmsford 4th of July Parade will be on that Monday.

The Swim Team Kick Off Party will be on Thursday, June 24th at 5 pm. The cost is $3 for 2 slices of pizza and a drink. Please sign up in the clubhouse lobby if you plan on attending. We ask that those families that attend please bring either a salad or a dessert to share.

There will be a Zumba Party on July 10th at 4 pm. The class will be taught by Janice McHugh and a certified Zumba instructor. The cost is $10 per person and all proceeds will go to the UMass Amherst Water Polo Team. If interested, please sign up in the clubhouse lobby.

There will be spraying for mosquitoes at the tennis courts tomorrow Tuesday June 22nd at 8:30 pm. If you had planned to play tennis at this time, we kindly ask that you reschedule. Thanks!

Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting tomorrow Tuesday June 22nd, there will be a fitness class held by Laurie McDermot from 9-10 am at the club. The class is called "Recess." It will be $5.00 a class. Participants will need a mat, a fitness ball and hand weights. The class will be appropriate for all levels of fitness so come on down to the pool, work out, and have some fun!

And for those who missed the swim suit and sweatshirt sale and are interested in placing an order, we ask that you contact Tricon Sports directly. The phone number is 781-861-8921. Both Ed and Paul are contacts for our order, but if they are not available you can still place your order with someone else; just be sure to say that it is for Chelmsford Swim and Tennis Club.

Hi Everyone,

SWIM PRACTICE IN THE MORNINGS:
As many of you may know, we will be switching to morning swim practice tomorrow (6/21). Practice will be Monday through Friday. The 12 and unders will practice from 9-10 am and the 13 and overs will practice from 10-11 am. Diving will take place from 12-1 pm. This will be the practice schedule until the end of the swim season.

FIRST SWIM MEET:
Our first swim meet is this Saturday (6/26) at home against Wayland. Warm up will be at 8:30 am and the meet will start at 9:30 am. If you know that your kids cannot make the meet, please let myself or one of their coaches know as soon as possible.

I will be sending out a reminder email later in the week to those of you who have volunteered for this meet to remind you of what you have signed up for. If you are a volunteer at a meet, we ask that you check in with either Donna Omobono or Martha Krauch so they can be sure that we have enough volunteers.

CONCESSION DONATIONS:
For each home meet we are in need of donations for concessions. For our first meet we need the following:
* 2 boxes of Joe
* 1 dozen muffins
* 3 dozen donuts
* 3 dozen bagels with cream cheese
* 6 cases of water
* 2 cases of powerade
* 2 cases of diet coke
* 2 cases of coke
* 1 case sprite
* 4 boxes of juice
* 4 (12 pack bags of assorted chips, etc.)
* 4 bags of ice

Anything that you can donate will be greatly appreciated! If you are able to donate, please contact info@chelmsfordswimandtennis.org with what you can bring. Thanks!

SUNSCREEN:
Also, we recommend that you apply your family's sunscreen before coming to the pool, or allow it to sink in a little before the kids jump into the pool. This is because the excess sunscreen gets into the filters and can do some serious damage, especially on those really hot, busy days! And this will likely help with preventing sunburns as well : )

LOWELL SPINNERS June 22, and July 12:
Don't forget to get your spinners tickets! If you are interested in going to a Spinners game, tickets are still available for Tuesday, June 22. Tickets are $6 each and all proceeds benefit Center School in Chelmsford. Contact Sandra Flanagan if you are interested (978-875-0968). There are also still tickets available for the Spinners game on Monday, July 12th at 7 pm. Tickets are $8 each. Sign up in the clubhouse lobby to reserve your spot! Just a reminder that swim and dive practice will start this coming Monday, June 7th and will be Monday, Wednesday, Friday this week. The following week will be Monday through Friday. Swim team 12 and overs will practice from 3:30-4:30 and 12 and unders will practice from 4:30-5:30. Dive team will practice from 5:30-7:00.

Also, the team swim suit and sweatshirt sale has been scheduled for Wednesday June 16th from 4:00-6:00 at the pool. Definitely stop by if you need a new team swim suit or sweatshirt!

LOWELL SPINNERS TICKETS!
CS&T is going to The Lowell Spinners baseball game on Monday, July 12th at 7 pm. Tickets are $8 each. There is a sign up sheet posted in the clubhouse lobby for those who are interested! Contact Corey Pierce if you have any questions.
